The Storyline... The Sacred Heart Pioneers are coming off a big season-opening win against Siena. The momentum is high as SHU opens at home against the Columbia Lions this Sunday. The Lions, on the other hand, are coming off Friday's 63-52 loss to Vermont and are looking to rebound from their season opener.
The Series... With the home crowd cheering them on, the Pioneers look to defeat the Columbian Lions who they have four victories in the eight times the teams have met. All four of those W's have come at home, a habit they look to continue Sunday. This will be the first time four years that SHU will play Columbia. The last time the teams met on Nov. 13, 2009, Sacred Heart fell to the Lions 79-55.
Scouting the Lions... Columbia closed their 2010-11 season with a 7-21 overall record. Against Ivy League opponents they were 6-8 which placed them in a tie for fourth place with Brown University. In this season's Ivy League Coaches' Preseason Poll, the Lions were picked to finish in sixth place. They bring back guard Brianna Orlich who scored 76 field goals for the Lions last year placing her third in FG on the team.
