Sophomore Kiley Evans (Cazenovia, NY) and junior Callan Taylor (Overland Park, KS) each received a nod to the Capital One Academic All-District second team for district 1, which includes schools throughout seven states in the Northeast. Sacred Heart's two representatives on the All-District team are the most by any institution in district 1. The duo has helped lead the Pioneers to a 15-10 overall record this season, including a 9-5 mark in Northeast Conference play.
Taylor paces the Pioneers in both scoring and rebounding in 2010-11 with 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this season. The six-foot forward also leads the NEC in double-doubles with nine and is averaging 14.9 points and 10.8 boards against league opponents. Taylor is an Exercise Science major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.59. She was also named to the preseason All-NEC second team after taking home a second team honor after the 2009-10 season.
Evans has notched three double-doubles of her own this year and is coming off of her highest scoring output of the season last time out, a 20 point performance against Quinnipiac. The New York native averages just under ten points and five rebounds per game while shooting 80 percent from the free throw line. Evans is a history major whose cumulative GPA currently stands at 3.90. Following the 2009-10 campaign she was selected to the Northeast Conference All-Rookie squad.
This marks the second straight year a Pioneer has been named to the Academic All-District team after senior Alisa Apo (Freehold, NJ) was named to the second team in 2009-10.
