Men’s Cross Country Picked Second in NEC Preseason Poll

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's cross country team was picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, released on Thursday. 

The Pioneers finished second at the 2016 NEC Championships, with all five scoring runners placing in the top-20. Despite losing individual champion Connor Rog to graduation, SHU returns senior Trevor Guerrera who finished fourth, and sophomores Joshua Hadity and Gilmar Barrios who were 14th and 15th, respectively. Sophomore Carl Fortna was 19th at last year's NEC meet.

SHU got two first-place votes in the poll, with defending NEC champions Central Connecticut taking five to top the poll. Saint Francis U had one first-place vote to take the third spot. Wagner, Mount St. Mary's, Bryant, St. Francis Brooklyn, and Fairleigh Dickinson round out the poll.
