SHU Tabbed Second in NEC Coaches Poll

2013 NEC Men's Cross Country Release

FAIRFIELD, CT (August 20, 2013) - The Northeast Conference announced the 2013 Men's Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Poll on Tuesday afternoon with the Sacred Heart Pioneers picked second.

The Pioneers came in behind Central Connecticut State University who enter the season looking for their fifth-straight NEC title this fall.  Mount St. Mary's, which garnered the remaining top nod, took third place. Wagner was slated fourth in the predicted order of finish, followed by St. Francis Brooklyn and Robert Morris in fifth and sixth respectively. Saint Francis U landed in seventh place, while Bryant and Fairleigh Dickinson completed the nine-team field.

SHU finished fourth at last fall's NEC title race but had a pair of runners garner All-NEC honors.  Christopher Connelly (Medford, NY), who returns for a fifth year as a graduate student in 2013, took third place finishing the race in a time of 25:11.32, just shy of eight seconds off the race winner.

Sophomore Sean Ferguson (Smithtown, NY) achieved all-conference status as a rookie in 2012, took home 13th place with a time of 25:54.88.

The Pioneers open the 2013 season next Saturday, August 31st at the Stony Brook University Invitational.  This year's Northeast Conference Championship will run on November 2nd at Saint Francis University.
