ITHACA, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University wrestling team participated in the Body Bar Invitational, hosted by Cornell University, this Saturday. Sophomore T.J. Neidhart (Wading River, N.Y.) had a strong showing in the 184 lb. weight class as he placed sixth.
Neidhart started the day with a 10-1 decision over Nathan Dick (Lock Haven), before being pinned by second seeded Nate Schiedel (Binghamton), in 2:09. In the consolation bracket, Neidhart ran off a 9-8 win over Will Brown (Army), then took a 4-0 decision from Christopher Estep (Kent State) in the conti-quarters. He faced Casey Newburg (Kent State) in the fifth place match and lost by fall in 3:50.
Freshman Tim Rich (Chelmsford, Mass.) won by technical fall, 17-0 in 2:43, against Nick Fitzmaurice (Binghamton) in the first round of the 149 class, before falling to top seeded Daniel Young (Clarion) in 3:20. He beat Jimmy Loomis (Buffalo) by tech fall, 17-0, in the consolation bracket, but was knocked out by a 6-5 decision to Donnie Corby (Central Michigan).
Wrestling at 157, senior Anthony Priore (Garwood, N.J.) defeated Jon Kaloust (Binghamton) 4-0 in the first round, followed by a 5-3 loss to number two Mark Lewandowski (Buffalo). He finished off the day on the losing end of a 3-2 decision to Derrick Brenon (Ithaca).
Freshman Andrew Polidore (125/Wayne, N.J.), freshman Joe Evangelista (141/East Northport, N.Y.), junior Jonathan Rizzitello (165/Paramus, N.J.), and redshirt-sophomore Jordan Miron (285/Stratford, Conn.) all recorded victories in the consolation bracket.
The Pioneers are on the mat again tomorrow aganst West Virginia, Eastern Michigan, and Shippensburg at the Sprawl Brawl in Binghamton.
