Freshman Bradley Borsay (Richmond, RI) became the first Pioneer in program history to claim the AVCA Division I-II national player of the week as the outside hitter took home the honor for the week ending February 13. Borsay was also named the EIVA Hay player of the week as the SHU men's volleyball team registered a pair of convincing 3-0 victories at home last week.
Borsay recorded the match high for kills in both contests and hit an outstanding .462 combined for the two matches. The 6-5 freshman notched 11 kills as the Pioneers defeated Springfield for the first time in school history. Entering the Tuesday night clash the Pride were the top ranked team in Division III.
Borsay had a sparkling match Saturday night versus George Mason, tallying 21 kills and swinging at an incredible .655 clip. Over the first two sets against the Patriots he totaled 17 kills without making a single error. The Pioneers dominated George Mason throughout the match to avenge its season opening loss in Fairfax, VA. Borsay also averaged 1.83 digs per game over the week and added a trio of blocks in the match with Springfield.
This also marks the third week in a row a Sacred Heart athlete claimed the title of EIVA Hay player of the week, Enzo Mackenzie (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) had earned the honor in consecutive weeks.
Borsay and the Pioneers return to action this Friday as they travel to NYU for a EIVA match-up with the Violets.
