Peterson and Lane Both Named Track Athletes of the Week

Patrick Peterson (Gloversville, NY) and Brittney Lane (Greenwich, NY) both were honored this week by the Northeast Conference for the performances at Princeton's Larry Ellis Memorial Invitational last weekend, earning NEC Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Peterson climbed to the the No. 30 ranking amongst the NCAA East Region's top half-milers. The sophomore clocked in at 1:49.89 to win gold in the Friday Night Races. Peterson finished 0.81 second better than the runner-up in his heat, beating out previous NEC leader and past conference champion Gigi Gibilisco of Mount St. Mary's. Not only did Peterson's performance come in well under the IC4A Championship qualifying standard, but it was nearly a full second better than the 12-year old NEC Outdoor Championship meet record (1:50.88).

Lane reclaimed the Northeast Conference lead in the 5,000-meter run. Becoming the first NEC distance runner to post a sub-17:00 time since Quinnipiac's Kaitlyn Gwyther, who set the NEC Outdoor Championship meet record in 2006, Lane finished in 16:57.01 to break the SHU program record. She came in 15th out of 98 competitors at Princeton, taking the NEC lead over by 11 seconds.
