(Fairfield, CT) – Bertony Jean-Louis (Norwalk, CT) and Brandon Hutchinson (Bay Shore, NY) of the Sacred Heart Men's Track and Field team were both honored in the Northeast Conference Weekly Awards announced December 14. Jean-Louis was named NEC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Hutchinson claimed NEC Men's Track Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Jean-Louis followed teammate Jeremy Rosado (Brooklyn, NY) in earning the Men's Track Athlete of the Week award by finishing first among a field of 51 in the 60-meter hurdles. His time of 8.01 seconds beat his own school and conference record by .01 seconds, which he set last year at the NEC Indoor Championships. He now ranks first in both the NEC and in New England and tenth overall among all NCAA Division I hurdlers this year. He easily surpassed the IC4A qualifying mark of 8.25 seconds.
Hutchinson earned his second straight Men's Rookie of the Week honor by earning third place in the triple jump with a leap of 46' 9 ½" (14.26 meters). More importantly, the rookie took over the NEC lead in the triple jump, and continues to rank fourth in the long jump after a leap of 21' 11 ½". Hutchinson automatically qualified for the New England's in the triple jump, while missing the IC4A qualifying standard by a mere four centimeters. Last week, Hutchinson earned the award with a first-place finish in the long jump during his collegiate debut, helping Sacred Heart capture the CTC team title.
