New Haven, CT – The Sacred Heart men's Tennis team traveled to Yale University over the weekend to compete in the Connecticut State Championships. The all-Connecticut field included Quinnipiac, Fairfield, UCONN and Yale. The tournament included a singles and doubles draw, as well as consolation draws for each.
The Pioneers put together a few wins in the singles draw. James Barnhart (Longmeadow, MA) defeated Tommy Ratchford of Yale 6-3, 2-6, 10-4. Brian Power (Pelham, NY) notched two wins in the singles draw, deafeating Alex Lazerowich of Quinnipiac 6-1, 6-0 and Jordan Badenko of Hartford 6-0, 6-2. Jeremy Shuskus (West Hartford, CT) grabbed a win of his own, defeating Nick Sharwarko of Hartford 3-6, 7-6, 10-8. Justin Pagan (Flushing, NY) beat Alex Holdstein of Hartford 6-2, 6-4. Pagan also grabbed two more wins for the Pioneers in the consolation draw.
The Connecticut State Championships marked the end of the fall season for the Pioneers; they will hit the courts next on January 27th when they face Yale to kick off the spring season.
