FAIRFIELD, CT (April 9, 2011) - The Sacred Heart men's tennis team improved to 5-2 in Northeast Conference play beating St. Francis (NY) Saturday afternoon, 6-1, at the SHU Tennis Courts. The Pioneers improved to 11-7 overall and won their fifth match in their last six.
SHU opened the day by winning the doubles point led by seniors Jacob Miller (West Chesterfield, NH) and Cole Conrad (Fairfield, CT) who won at #1, 8-4, over Danlahdi Robinson and Tita Mba. Freshman Luke Bagi (Branford, CT) and junior Logan Mohring (Naples, FL) beat Martin Grunin and Edward Alontaga at #2, 8-2.
In singles, senior Kirill Kasynov finished the NEC portion of the schedule a perfect 7-0 after beating Mba, 6-1, 6-0. Senior Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) won at #2, James Brennan-Tsang, 6-3, 6-3. Senior Michael Syer (Oakville, Ontario) won 6-1, 6-0 over Alex Tokarz at #4 and junior Chadd Sullo (Orange, CT) won at #5 over Daniel Gonzalez, 6-2 and 6-2. Conrad finished out the singles wins with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #6 over Grunin.
The Pioneers will host a pair of matches on Sunday, facing Niagara and Fordham starting at 11 am.
