The Sacred Heart men's tennis team won all three doubles matches but came up short in singles play in falling to Bryant University, 4-3, Saturday night in their first dual match action against a Northeast Conference school.
SHU battled but lost in three sets in all four of their singles losses to the Bulldogs. Seniors Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) and Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) led the sweep in doubles play with an 8-5 win over Nolan Gelman and Hart Callahan in the #1 spot.
Seniors Michael Syer (Oakville, Ontario) and Cole Conrad (Fairfield, CT) won at #2 doubles, 8-2, over Juan Parades and Crista Balestrieri. The team of senior Nick Mazzarese (Stonington, CT) and junior Chadd Sullo (Orange, CT) made it a clean doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Dana Parzieli and Nicholai Hill at #3.
Kasaynov won 7-5 and 6-2 over Parades at #1 singles while Mazzarese earned the other SHU singles win at #3 over Callahan, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5.
Ujkic took the first set over Balestrieri at #2, 6-2 but lost 6-4, 6-3. Conrad also won his first set over Parzieli 6-3 at #4 but came up short losing 6-2, 6-2. Sullo dropped the first set 6-0 to Gelman but rebounded for a 6-2 win in the second set before falling in thre, 6-2. Senior Jake Miller (West Chesterfield, NH) fell at #6 singles to Vidith Huot after winning the first set, 6-4. Huot took the next two sets 6-4, 6-4.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday night traveling to NJIT.
