FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Eight home matches highlight the 2013 Sacred Heart men's soccer schedule, released on Wednesday. The Pioneers open their home slate on Sunday, Sept. 1 with a 2 p.m. match against Siena at Campus Field.
Sacred Heart opens the season on Friday, August 30 at Stony Brook. The Pioneers then return home for matches against Siena and a 7 p.m. game against NJIT on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The next weekend, Sacred Heart travels to Philadelphia to take on Drexel (Sept. 6) and Penn (Sept. 8). Drexel is one of two teams the Pioneers will face in 2013 that played in last season's NCAA tournament. The Pioneers then play three of their next five games at home, beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 10 against Yale. Sacred Heart will also host UMass-Lowell and Rhode Island during that stretch.
The Pioneers open Northeast Conference play at Saint Francis Brooklyn on Friday, Oct. 11 before hosting Central Connecticut State the following Sunday. After three consecutive road contests at Bryant, Robert Morris, and Saint Francis U, Sacred Heart will host LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, Nov. 3. Conference play wraps up on Sunday, Nov. 10 when the Pioneers host defending NEC champion Fairleigh Dickinson. The Knights reached the third round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament, defeating St. John's and eighth-seeded Saint Louis.
Sacred Heart finished 2012 with a record of 9-8, going 5-5 in the NEC.
