(Fairfield, CT) – Senior defender Marcello Castro (Parana, Brazil) is one of only 42 Division I men's soccer players named to the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List for 2012, announced recently by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer presented annually in January during a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. Each list will be narrowed down by NSCAA members from Division I programs to 15 semifinalists by November 29. Member coaches and fans will then vote for their top three choices and the finalists will be announced December 6. The winners will be announced at the awards' banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, Jan. 11. Castro is alsoone of only four players from the Northeast Conference to make the prestigious list.
Castro enters his senior season with 14 career goals and two assists. Last year, he scored a career best six goals and 13 points to capture both the Northeast Conference Player of the Year Award and his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year Award. Castro's game-changing defense combined with his dynamic goal-scoring abilities also earned him a spot on last season's NCSAA Men's Division I All-North Atlantic First Team.
