FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team hosts its final home game of the 2010 season on what is the Pioneers' annual "Senior Day". This afternoon the Bryant University Bulldogs visit Campus Field for a noon time Northeast Conference match-up.

About the Pioneers... Sacred Heart enters this afternoon's game with an overall record of 10-5-1 and sit in a three-way tie for second place in the NEC standings. With a 1-0 win over Central Connecticut last week, the Pioneers tied the program's Division I record for wins a season with 10, which was set in 2007. The win also marked the 250th in program history. Today they seek a record breaking 11th win as they also try to clinch a birth in the NEC playoffs. Sophomore Marcello Castro has been the top weapon for the SHU attack, having posted five goals and an assist, while playing on the back line. Classmate Brian Francolini is second on the team in scoring with three goals and a pair of assists. Eleven different players have contributed to the Pioneer's 22 goals this season. In net, junior Alex Fait has produced five shutouts and holds a 1.02 goals against average.
Scouting the Bulldogs... Bryant is in the middle of a three game skid, following a 2-1 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday. Overall the Bulldogs are 4-9-2 and 2-5-2 in league play. Senior defender Norbert Guery leads the team in scoring with 11 points, on five goals and an assist. Fellow senior Tom Nelan and sophomore Ryan Stone have each chipped in six points on the year. Senior goalkeeper Victor Tutino has started every game in net for Bryant, while ranking second in the NEC with 75 saves and boasting a 1.94 GAA.
SHU Soccer Seniors... Today the Sacred Heart athletic department and the men's soccer team would like to honor the team's nine graduating seniors: Douglas Barone, Lusiano Dadario, Patrick Daka, Thomas Flanagan, Sergio Freitas, Tyler Locatell, Mario Mililli, William Richards, and Eugenio Soares. Through their four years these seniors have posted a team record of 34-28-7, the most wins for any graduating class since the Pioneers made the jump to Division I. As freshmen, they were a part of just the second Sacred Heart men's soccer team to qualify for the NEC tournament.
Up Next... The Pioneers close the book on the 2010 regular season with a road contest at Fairleigh Dickinson at 7:00 pm on Saturday November 6. Sacred Heart is still in search of a clinching victory to send the team to the NEC Tournament which begins on November 12.
