Pioneers Look To Move To 2-0 In NEC At Wagner Saturday

Setting The Scene… A week after scoring a season-high 14 goals in its first win of the season, the Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team looks to move to 2-0 in the NEC Saturday at Wagner.
Series History vs. Wagner … The Pioneers are 8-1 all-time against the Seahawks dating back to the 2000 season. Six of Sacred Heart's eight wins have been by at least 10 goals.
Last Time Out … Sacred Heart used a 9-0 run to roll past Mount St. Mary's 14-5 last Saturday at Waldron Family Stadium. The win was the Pioneers' first of the 2013 season and the first all-time against the Mountaineers. Mike Mawdsley tied a career-high with five points, scoring four goals with an assist. Matt Gannon's five points on two goals and three assists were a career high. Alex Miller had three points as Shane Foley and Trevor Dauses each scored a pair of goals.
Jon Flood Named NEC Defensive Player of the Week… Sophomore goalie Jon Flood was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after allowing a season-low five goals in the win at Mount St. Mary's last Saturday. Flood made 14 saves in the game, his sixth in the last seven with at least 10 saves. He has posted a 9.35 GAA and a .561 save percentage in the last five games and is now third in the NEC in both categories.
Gannon Getting It Done… Junior attackman Matt Gannon had a career-high five points at Mount St. Mary's last Saturday, scoring two goals with three assists. Gannon has tallied 16 points (4G, 12 A) in the last five games. He is second in the NEC, and 20th nationally, in assists per game with 1.89.
Five Points For Mawdsley… Mike Mawdsley tied his career high for points in a single game last Saturday with five at Mount St. Mary's. Mawdsley scored four goals and had his first assist since 2011. He has tallied five points in a game four times in his career, including a five-goal effort at Marist earlier this season. Mawdsley has scored eight goals in the last four games. He is 10th in the nation with a .472 shot percentage.
Foley on Nine-Game Goal-Scoring Streak… Senior midfielder Shane Foley has scored 14 goals with 16 points this season, scoring in each game this season. In the last two seasons combined, Foley has scored nine goals with 17 points. He has tallied a point in 15 of his last 16 games.
Scouting Wagner… The Seahawks are 1-8 on the season and 0-1 in the NEC after a 22-6 loss at Robert Morris last Saturday. Wagner followed that up with a 12-11 loss to Manhattan on Tuesday. Colin O'Rourke and Griffin Leclaire lead Wagner in scoring, with each player tallying 16 goals and 22 points.
