Pioneers Host #20 Yale Tuesday Night at Campus Field

Setting the Scene ... The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team looks for its first win of the season as it hosts #20 Yale Tuesday night at Campus Field.
Last Time Out ... The Pioneers moved to 0-3 on the season with an 11-9 loss to Holy Cross on Saturday in the home opener at Campus Field. Eight different Sacred Heart players scored in the game, led by Matt King's two goals.
Series vs. Yale ... Tuesday's game is the third meeting all-time between the Pioneers and Bulldogs. Each team has won once, with Sacred Heart winning 13-12 at Yale last season. Mike Mawdsley scored five goals in that win with Matt Gannon dishing out four assists.
Getting Those Ground Balls ... The Pioneers are fourth in the nation in ground balls per game, averaging 37.67 a game. Sacred Heart has had over 35 ground balls in each of its first three games this season. Two Pioneers are ranked among the top-40 players in ground balls per game in the country. Tim Caton is 25th in the country at 5.67 per game and Stephen Kontos is 37th with five per game.
Success At The X... Stephen Kontos is currently sixth in the nation in face-off percentage, winning 63.6% of his draws so far this season. He won 17-of-24 faceoffs against Holy Cross on Saturday with a team-high six ground balls, and has won 69% of his face-offs over the last two games. Last season, Kontos was second in the NEC in faceoff percentage at 57%. That put him 14th in the nation.
Mawdsley Second in the Nation in Shot Percentage... Junior attack Mike Mawdlsey is second in the country in shooting percentage at 66.7%. In three games this season, Mawdsley has scored eight goals on 12 shots on goal. Mawdsley leads the NEC with 2.67 goals per game.
Scouting Yale... The Bulldogs are 1-1 on the year after beating then-#20 Albany 15-8 on Saturday. Yale outscored the Great Danes in each quarter, taking an 8-4 lead at halftime. Conrad Oberbeck led Yale with six goals in the game, with Brandon Mangan adding four goals. Goalie Eric Natale made 12 saves in net for the Bulldogs. Oberbeck leads Yale with seven goals in two games, while Mangan had a team-high nine points and three assists. The Bulldogs won the Ivy League tournament last season and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 years.
