Atlantic Hockey Tournament - First Round

Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart men's hockey team opens the first round of the Atlantic Hockey tournament with a best-of-3 series at fifth-seeded Robert Morris Friday night at 7:05 p.m.

Last Time Out... Sacred Heart ended the regular season with a 4-0 loss to UConn last Saturday at Webster Bank Arena. The Huskies took a 1-0 lead with 1:28 remaining in the second period and tacked on three more goals in the third period. UConn outshot the Pioneers 46-33. Steven Legatto made 42 saves in goal for Sacred Heart.

All-Time vs. Robert Morris...The Colonials extended their all-time series lead against Sacred Heart to 6-0-1 this season with a pair of wins at 84 Lumber Arena Feb. 1-2. Robert Morris won 6-3 and 7-4 with four different Colonials scoring two goals in the series. Adam Brace led the Colonials with five points that weekend (G, 4A). Eric Delong had two goals and three assists in the series with Ben Ketchum adding two goals and two assists.

Playoff History... Sacred Heart is 12-14 all-time in Atlantic Hockey postseason games. The Pioneers have won at least one postseason game in each of the last six seasons. Sacred Heart had reached the quarterfinals in eight straight seasons before losing a first round series in three games to Bentley last season. Of their 26 postseason contests, the Pioneers are just 1-1 in overtime. Sacred Heart lost to UConn 3-2 in game two of the quarterfinals in 2008 and beat Holy Cross 4-3 to win a quarterfinal series. 

Stepping Up In The Postseason ... Nine current Pioneers have tallied postseason points heading into this weekend. Eric Delong leads the team with eight career playoff points on two goals and six assists. Chad Filteau has five career points in the postseason with two goals and three assists. Filteau had two goals and two assists in the three-game series against Bentley last season. Drew George had a goal and two assists last season against the Falcons. Alex Stuart, Ben Ketchum, Kyle Verbeek, Jared Eng, and Bryan Felice each have at least one postseaston point.

Centers of Attention... Sacred Heart's starting four centers - Eric Delong, Chad Filteau, Ben Lake, and Tommy Castonguay - have combined for 20 points in the last six games. Delong has led the group with seven points on two goals and five assists. He scored a shorthanded goal late in the game at UConn last Friday that tied the game 4-4. Filteau has scored four goals with an assist, while Castonguay has four assists. Ben Lake has three goals and an assist, including a goal and an assist at UConn last Friday.
