FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart (0-24-2, 0-17-2 Atlantic Hockey) men's hockey team will open up a home-and-home series with Holy Cross (14-10-2, 10-7-2) Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Milford Ice Pavilion. The two teams will then meet in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday afternoon.
Last Time Out... Sacred Heart pulled to within a goal late in the second period last Saturday night at Robert Morris, but could not tie the game as the Colonials completed a weekend sweep of the Pioneers with a 7-4 win. Eric Delong and Ben Ketchum each had a goal and an assist in the game.
Meet the Captain...Senior Eric Delong will wear the "C" for the second straight year. Delong enters this weekend's games with 109 career points (42 goals, 67 assists). He is just the 12th player in program history to notch 100 career points. He made an immediate impact as a freshman, registering 35 points as a rookie. Last year, he tied for second on the team with 12 assists. Senior Tommy Castonguay and junior Neil Fachini will serve as Assistant Captains.
Sheehan Keeps Scoring ... Brian Sheehan became the first Pioneer to reach double-figures in goals this season with a pair of power-play tallies against Air Force Jan. 19-20. His 11 goals this season surpass his total from a year ago. Sheehan had a goal and an assist at Robert Morris last weekend, extending his point-scoring streak to six games.
Points From the Blue Line... Sacred Heart's defensemen have tallied 14 points in the last five games. Sophomore Jared Eng has led this point production with a goal and five assists over that span. Four of Eng's six points have come on the power play. Will Rayner has added two goals and two assists in the last five games. Freshman Jacob Brightbill scored his first career goal last Saturday at Robert Morris and added an assist. Bryan Felice has had two assists in the last five games.
Cashing In On The Power Play... The Pioneers were 5-for-12 on the power play last weekend at Robert Morris. Eric Delong had a power play goal in each game of the series against the Colonials. Jacob Brightbill, Will Rayner, and Brian Sheehan also had power play tallies against Robert Morris. Over the last five games, Sacred Heart is 8-for-21 (38.1%) on the power play.
Scouting the Crusaders...Holy Cross is currently tied for third in Atlantic Hockey with Air Force with each team having 22 points. The Crusaders have split each of their last four conference series, including last weekend at Canisius. Holy Cross lost the first game 3-0 before winning last Saturday 5-1. Shayne Stockton had two Crusaders goals in that win. Kyle Fletcher leads Holy Cross with 23 points on nine goals and 14 assists. Brandon Nunn and Adam Schmidt each have a team-leading 10 goals.
