The second period started out positively for the Pioneers as they killed off a penalty committed with 38 seconds left in the previous period. From there it was all Colgate in the second, controlling most of the action and scoring three goals in the period. Colgate took the 2-1 lead at 3:18 of the second on a shorthanded goal, scored by Joe Wilson. Wilson scored on a breakaway opportunity, slipping the puck passed Sacred Heart goaltender Andrew Bodnarchuk (Saskatoon, SK). Senior Nathan Sinz (Anchorage, AK) found the back of the net, helped out by the same duo of Bourdon and Bartliff. Bourdon had four assists in the game.
The pioneers had a couple opportunities in the second to cut into Colgate's lead but were denied each time. First on a breakaway opportunity by George, who was denied on the one on one opportunity, a superb save by Colgate goaltender Spencer Finney (Pontypool, ON). Another chance was for Delong who had a shot hit the post, a shot that would be reviewed by the refs to make sure it did not cross the goal-line. The pioneers outshot Colgate 15-6 in the period.
Colgate's extended their lead at 5:17 in the third period, a goal by freshman Kyle Baun (Toronto, ON) to take the 5-1 lead.
