Men's Hockey Falls 5-2 at RIT; Delong Records 100th Career Point
(Rochester, NY) – Eric Delong (Oakville, MB) recorded his 100th career point, but the Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team fell 5-2 to the RIT Tigers Saturday night at Ritter Arena.
The Tigers took the lead at 7:21 of the first on a power play goal by Alexander Kuqali at the very end of the penalty. He went to the net and buried a goalmouth pass from Brad McGowan, with Mike Colavecchia picking up the secondary assist.
Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, MO) tied the game with his team-leading seventh goal of the season, taking finishing off a rush into the zone by Ben Ketchum (Greenwich, CT) and a tip pass through the slot from Delong at 14:28 of the second.
RIT responded with a goal by Ben Lynch, set up by Brad Shumway and Brad Reid at 16:48. They added another on the power play when Colavecchia nudged the puck over the goal line after Greg Noyes put a shot on goal following a wrist shot off the right post by Chris Saracino at 17:55.
Delong cut the deficit in half with his milestone point, sniping a top-shelf glove side wrist shot under the crossbar from just right of the slot at 11:01 of the third. Drew George (Regina, SK) and Matthew Solomon (Toronto, ON) set him for his second point of the night, as the SHU captain become just the 12th player in program history to reach the 100-point mark.
Saracino got that one back with the Tigers; third power play goal of the night at 13:42, blasting a one-timer from the high slot on passes from Greg Noyes and Mike Colavecchia.
Fredrick Melander (Uppsala, Sweeden) made 35 saves in goal for SHU. The Pioneers are off until December 31, when they travel to RPI for a New Year's Eve matinee at 4:00 pm.
