(Storrs, CT) – The Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team's comeback bid fell shirt, scoring the final three goals of the game in a 5-3 on the road against the UConn Huskies Friday night.

UConn scored the game's first five goals.  The Husies took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission behind goals from Trevor Gerling at 8:43 and Joe Budnick at 18:40.

In the second period, Patrick Kirkland and Jordan Sims scored within 11 seconds of each other beginning at 3:04 to open up a 4-0 lead.  Rookie goaltender Fredrick Melander (Uppsala, Sweeden) made his collegiate debut in relief of Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC), and made 27 saves on 28 shots.  However, Cody Sharib got one by him at 7:02 to give the Huskies a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Pioneers inched back with three unanswered goals.  Ryan Stanimir (West Vancouver, BC) scored an unassisted goal with 19 seconds remaining in the second period to put SHU on the board.  Eric Delong added another at 4:44 of the third, with assists going to Mitchell Stretch (Saskatoon, SK) and Josh Phillips (Toronto, ON).  SHU cut the deficit to two on a goal by Nick Curry (Augusta, GA), set up by Drew George (Regina, SK) and Jared Eng (West Vancouver, BC).  However, that is close as they would get, as UConn finished the game outshooting SHU 18-6 in the third period and 44-28 in the game.
