Men's Hockey Loses 6-3 to Penn State

(Milford, CT) – The Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team lost 6-3 Saturday night to the Penn State Nittany Lions at the Milford Ice Pavilion. 

Sacred Heart took the game's first lead at 5:03 on a goal by Josh Phillips (Torono, ON), who took a drop pass by Lake Lynes (Ellicott City, MD) and beat Penn State goalie PJ Musico with a wrist shot for his first collegiate goal.

The Nittany Lions roared back with three quick unanswered goals, however, to take a 3-1 lead.  Michael  Longo tied the game 32 seconds later, set up by Joseph Lordo.  Max Gardiner Penn State the lead 3 seconds later, with Mark Yanis and Luke Juha picking up the assists.  Jonathan Milley made it 3-1 at10:41 with helpers going to Casey Bailey and Connor Varley.

The Pioneers cut the deficit to one when Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, MO) raced down the left wing on a chip up the near boards by Eric Delong (Oakville, MB), sneaking his shot up the arm and down the back of Musico at 17:36.

Penn State reopened a two-goal lead at 8:09 of the second on a goal by Nate Jenson, who knocked in a goalmouth feed from Michael McDonagh on the rush.  SHU, however, answered again just as a power play expired on goal by Drew George, who finished off tick-tack-toe passes from Delong and Sheehan with a one-timer on the doorstep.

The Nittany Lions put the game away with two goals in the third.  Mark Yanis ripped a shot from the right point after passes from McDonagh and Eric Steinour opened him up at 6:41.  Curts Loik added another at 7:56, from Steiner and Glen.

The Pioneers return to conference action next weekend when they host the Mercyhurst Lakers next Friday, November 2 at 7:05 at the Milford Ice Pavilion and Saturday, November 3 at 4:00 pm at Webster Bank Arena.
