Men's Hockey Team Downed 7-1 at Bentley

(Watertown, MA) – The Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team surrendered four second period goals, as the Bentley Falcons downed the Pioneers 7-1 in the opener of Atlantic Hockey play.

All of Bentley's goals came on special teams.  Alex Grieve opened the scoring at 6:52 with the Falcons on the two-man advantage.  The Pioneers went into the first intermission down 1-0, having been outshot 12-5 through 20 minutes.

After a Falcon power play goal at 6:25 by Brett Gensler, the Pioneers answered about two minutes later on their own two-man advantage for their only goal of the night.  Drew George (Regina, SK) took a cross ice pass near the far post from the right point by Jacob Brightbill (Anneville, PA).  Brian Shehan (St. Louis, MO) earned the secondary assist at 8:35.

However, Brett Hartung got that goal back on the same SHU power play with the first of three shorthanded goals for the Falcons.  Steve Weinstein and Grieve ripped off back-to-back goals on a two-man advantage at 15:35 and 16:44 respectively.  In the third period, Andrew Gladiuk scored on a breakaway at 6:32 for a shorthanded goal, and Jared Rickord added another shorthanded goal at 17:10 on another breakaway.

The Pioneers look to rebound with a home-and-home series with Army, beginning Friday night on the road in West Point, NY at 7:05 pm.
