Third Period Surge Does in Men's Hockey Team in 5-2 Loss to Bentley
(Watertown, MA) – The Bentley Falcons scored four third period goals to break a 1-1 tie en route a 5-2 win over the Sacred Heart Men's Hockey team.
Mike Switzer sent what appeared to be a dump-in on goal from center, but it eluded Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) for the go-ahead goal 51 seconds into the third. His little brother Brett Switzer, however, scored what proved to be the game-winning at 11:21. He took a stretch pass from Trent Bonnett to race in and get off a backhander to the far side while being tripped by Alex Stuart (Sauk Rapids, MN). Justin Breton scored on the ensuing power play 1:16 later on a deflection off a point slap shot by Dan Koudys. Aaron Stonacek scored the fifth unanswered Bentley goal at 14:33 shorthanded on a two-on-one rush, stuffing in a backhander. The first, a goal-mouth one-timer Joe Campanelli on a feed from Stonacek, tied the game at 12:19 of the second.
Matt Gingera (Winnipeg, MB) scored the game's first goal on the power play at 14:23 of the first. He knocked in a goal-mouth feed from Drew Geroge (Regina, SK) for his team-leading tenth of the season and the 93rd point of his career. Jared Eng (West Vancouver, BC) earned the first of his two assists on the night as well. The Pioneers did not score again until 17:13 of the third, when Brian Sheehan followed a shot from Mitchell Stretch (Saskatoon, SK) for a rebound goal, with Eng getting the secondary helper.
Sacred Heart hosts Bentley on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm at Webster Bank Arena.
