(Hamilton, NY) – Steven Legatto (Kelowna, B.C.) made 50 saves for the Sacred Heart Pioneers, but the Colgate Raiders used three first period goals to jump to a lead they would never relinquish in a 5-0 win Saturday evening.
Corbin McPhereson broke a scoreless tie at the 16:26 mark on the power play for his first of two goals in the game, with Robbie Bourdon and Jeremy Price getting the assists. The Raiders added two more in the final two minutes of the first period, with Matt Firman's talley from Nick Prockow and Ausitn Mayer at the 18:05 mark followed by McPerson's second goal from Robbie Bourdon with 37 seconds to play before the intermission.
Legatto faced 22 shots in the first period to the Pioneers' eight shots on goal. He turned away all 15 shots he faced in the second period. However, the Raider's added insurance goals late in the third on Bourdon's power-play goal at 16:02 and Billy Rivellini's even-strength marker at 18:24. The Pioneers were unable to solve Raiders goalie Alex Evin, who turned away all 21 Sacred Heart shots.
The Pioneers are next in action when they travel to Bentley Wednesday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m.
