FAIRFIELD, CT - Sacred Heart seniors Joseph Serrantino (Cromwell, CT) and Carly Bergin (Binghamton, NY) were named the Northeast Conference Golfers of the Month for October. Serrantino follows teammate Joshua Salah (Gloucester, MA) who won the award for the month of September.
Serrantino nabs NEC Golfer of the Month honors after notching a pair of top-10 finishes in the month of October. The senior finished fourth at the Connecticut Cup shooting an overall 217 in the three round event. Serrantino inked rounds of 70 and 72 followed by a 75 in the third round to help the Pioneers to a first place team finish. The Connecticut native also played well at the Yale MacDonald Cup carding a 71 on the first day of play. Although scheduled to play two rounds on Saturday, the event was shortened due to rain. Despite the wet weather Serrantino shot a 63 in the 18-hole round and finished a 4-over for the weekend to place 16th out of 74 competitors.
Bergin picks up NEC Golfer of the Month honors after an October filled with individual and team championships. The senior's 36-hole score of 148 at the ECAC Championship earned her a first place finish and the individual championship trophy. Bergin posted a 76 on the first day of competition, then took four-strokes off that score to card a 72, the low round of the day, to take home the individual trophy and help the Pioneers to a second place team finish. Later in the month the New York native carded a 167 (82-85) at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic to tie teammate Jennifer Clinton for ninth, helping the Pioneers to a first place overall finish.
