FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team shot a 286 in the final round of the McLaughlin Invitational, hosted by St. John's, to finish fourth in a 15 team field at Bethpage Red. The Pioneers completed the second day with a three-round total of 846. West Florida shot a third-round best 279 to take first place with a three-round total of 838.
Junior Joseph Serrantino (Cromwell, Conn.) paced SHU with a team-best 210, over the weekend. He finished 12th in the field, with a third-round score of 72. Serrentino sat atop the leader board in a three-way tie after shooting a 66 in the first round.
Senior David Renski (North Stonington, Conn.) and junior Leopoldo Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) settled in at a tie for 23rd with total scores of 213, respectively. Renski recorded a score of 71 in each of the three rounds, while Garcia booked a 71-69-73.
Sophomore Joshua Salah (Gloucester, Mass.) posted scores of 75-69-70 for the weekend, while senior Andrew Storm shot 72-71-77.
Sacred Heart finished six strokes out of second place, behind Princeton (840), and one stroke off of Villanova (845) for third.
The Pioneers are in action again on September 27 and 28 at the University of Hartford Invitational.
