FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University men's golf team is in third place, in a field of 15, after the first round of the McLaughlin Invitational, hosted by St. John's, at Bethpage Red. Junior Joseph Serrentino (Cromwell, Conn.) sits in a three-way tie atop the leader board after shooting a 66 on the day.
Serrentino recorded the second best score of the day on the
front nine with a 32. On the back nine he scored a 34 to go
into the clubhouse tied for the lead with Andrew Mason (Temple) and
Brendan Kelley (Villanova). Temple and Villanova are tied for
the lead with a team score of 278. The Pioneers sit in third
place, only two strokes back, with a 280.
Senior David Renski (North Stonington, Conn.) and junior Leopoldo Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) each registered a 71 for the day. Renski shot a 35 on the front and a 36 on the back, while Garcia booked a 36 and 35.
Senior Andrew Storm (Endwell, N.Y.) and sophomore Joshua Salah (Gloucester, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for SHU with a 72 and 75, respectively.
The Pioneers head into the final round of the McLaughlin Invitational with a two-stroke lead on IUPUI (282) and a three-stroke lead on West Florida (283).
