Foehr, Sierra and Tate Named 2012 Football Captains
FAIRFIELD, CT (August 24, 2012) - As preseason football training camp comes to an end and the Pioneers head toward their week one match-up with Morgan State, Sacred Heart interim head football coach Mark Nofri has announced that seniors Tyler Foehr (Florence, NJ), Rock Tate (Lantana, FL) and Niko Sierra (Longmeadow, MA) have been named team captains for the 2012 season.
"I am happy for the three student-athletes that were voted as captains by their peers," stated Nofri. "They are good football players and outstanding young men. I have complete faith that they will provide great leadership for this football team this fall."
Foehr, a 2012 All-Northeast Conference Preseason selection, had a break-out season at defensive end last fall. This season Foehr will move to outside linebacker but will still be playing with his hand on the ground. He notched 46 tackles and was second on the club with six sacks. He also forced a fumble and had eight QB hurries last season.
Tate hauled in 36 passes in 2011, fifth on the team among leaders. He played in all 11 games and averaged 10.9 yards per catch. He had two touchdown catches on the season. Sierra was a major playmaker on defense for the Pioneers, turning in 57 tackles with 7.5 tackles for a loss. He also had a sack and four interceptions on the year.
The Pioneers open the 2012 season next Saturday, September 1st at Morgan State, in the first of three-straight road games to start the year.
