Sacred Heart senior quarterback Dale Fink was named the Golden Helmet Award winner as the Division I New England Player of the Week by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston for his performance in the Pioneers 38-22 win over Wagner. Fink becomes the first Pioneer in program history to take home the prestigious weekly honor.
The senior signal caller completed 31 of 45 passes for 395 yards and five touchdowns in his final game in a Pioneer uniform to lead his team to victory. Fink passed the 300-yard mark in the first alone in helping his team build a commanding 31-7 lead at halftime. He entered his final game needing just 136 yards to become the Northeast Conference's all-time leading passer, a mark he surpassed late in the first quarter as he hit freshman Chris Nahat on a 36-yard touchdown.
Fink moved pass former Saint Francis (PA) quarterback Anthony Doria (8,544) ending his career with 8,803 career passing yards. He broke the Northeast Conference mark for career touchdowns two weeks ago in a loss to Albany and closes out his four years with 82 scoring strikes.
He ends his career holding 13 Sacred Heart passing records including career passing yards (8,803), career completions (853), career passing attempts (1359), career touchdown passes (82), passing yards in a season (2,907 - 2010), completions in a season (266 - 2010), pass attempts in a season (438 - 2010), yards passing in a game (414 vs. Albany - 2010), completions in a game (36 vs. Albany - 2010), passing attempts in a game (61 vs. Albany - 2010), touchdowns in a game (6 vs. Duquesne - 2009), completions percentage in a season (67.8% - 2008) and career completion percentage (62.8%).
Fink will receive his Golden Helmet Award at the 2010 New England Football Writers Annual Awards and Captains Banquet on December 9th.
