Pioneers Finish 13th in NCAA Men's Fencing Championship, Williams Named SHU's First Ever All-American
(Columbus, OH) – Sacred Heart men's fencers Justin Dion (North Attleboro, MA) and Marty Williams (Plainfield, NJ) completed their competition in the NCAA Fencing Championships at Ohio State University Thursday afternoon, leading the Pioneers to an historic day for the Sacred Heart's Men's Fencing program.
Williams went 15-8 in the sabre event during his two days of competition, finishing fifth out of 24 fencers en route to being named a Second Team All-American. Williams becomes Sacred Heart's first All-American fencer. Dion went 12 - 11 in epee in his two days, ranking 11th out of 24 fencers and earning Honorable Mention.
Sacred Heart finished 13th overall out of 24 teams, meaning they are the 13th best Men's Fencing team in the nation in their highest-ever ranking.
