Shane Gibson Set to Play for Kings in NBA Summer League

FAIRFIELD, CT (July 8, 2013) - Former Sacred Heart men's basketball player Shane Gibson(Killingly, CT) will be playing for the Sacramento Kings in the 2013 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas from July 12th-22nd.  Gibson worked out for the Kings during their pre-draft workouts and was added to their 15-man summer league roster.

Gibson will participate in the Kings' mini-camp in Las Vegas from July 8th through 12th before the summer schedule gets underway on Saturday, July 13th against the Dallas Mavericks.  Gibson will be playing alongside Kings draft picks Ben McLemore (first round, 7th overall) from Kansas and Ray McCallum (second round, 36th overall) from Detroit.

A three-time All-Northeast Conference selection, Gibson ended his Pioneer career this past season finishing with 2,079 career points.  He ended his SHU run as the leading scorer in the Pioneers' Division I history and became just the fifth player in NEC history to eclipse the 2,00 point mark.  He is eighth on the program's all-time scoring list and also ends his career with the Sacred Heart three-point record, making 286 three's over his four seasons.

In 2012-13, Gibson averaged 21.6 ppg, tied for the NEC lead and ninth among NCAA leaders.  In NEC games, Gibson was a scoring machine, leading all players averaging 24.8 ppg.  Gibson had a break-out junior season where he finished fourth in the nation in scoring (22.0 ppg). 

In addition to his 2,079 career points, he finished with 457 rebounds, 203 assists and 156 steals and a 41.4 percent (286-691) shooter from three and 85.3 percent (337-395) at the line.
