The Sacred Heart men's basketball team officially released their 2010-11 schedule with the Pioneers tipping-off the season against the cross-town rival Fairfield University. The 2010-11 slate features 29 games including first-ever match-ups with the University of New Hampshire and University of Massachusetts.
The 2010-11 season gets underway with the Connecticut 6 on Saturday, November 13th. The Pioneers will take on the rival Fairfield Stags as part of a three-game event at the Mohegan Sun Arena. SHU and Fairfield have met each of the last three seasons, as the Pioneers look to snap a three-game Stag win streak in the series.
The Pioneers play host to New Hampshire, the University of Hartford and the College of Holy Cross at the William H. Pitt Center in non-conference play. SHU will hit the road for non-league match-ups with Fordham, UMass, Brown, Lafayette, Stony Brook, Yale and Providence.
After the season opener with Fairfield, the Pioneers are on the road for three-straight with stops at Fordham on November 15th, UMass on November 17th and Brown on November 20th. The 2010-11 home opener is scheduled for Tuesday night, November 23rd when SHU welcomes the UNH Wildcats to the Pitt Center before the Thanksgiving break.
SHU will jump into Northeast Conference play for a pair of games to open the month of December, playing host to Mount St. Mary's on December 2nd and Wagner on December 4th. The pair of NEC tilts opens a stretch of five games in 10 days. SHU heads to Lafayette on December 6th, hosts instate rival Hartford on December 8th and heads across Long Island Sound to face Stony Brook on December 11th.
The Pioneers will stay in state on December 19th to take on the Yale Bulldogs and head to Providence of the Big East on December 21st in their last action before the holiday break. SHU closes out non-conference play by opening the New Year hosting Holy Cross on January 2nd.
The NEC slate will once again feature 18 games with the top-eight teams in the standings qualifying for the conference tournament with games played at the sites of the highest seeds. SHU will face Mount, Wagner, Fairleigh Dickinson, Monmouth, Central Connecticut State, Bryant and Quinnipiac. The Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac match-up will once again be featured during NEC Rivalry Week on Wednesday, February 9th and Saturday, February 12th.
