Fairfield, CT – SHU Head Baseball Coach Nick Giaquinto has announced an addition to his incoming class of 2017. The newest Pioneer will be catcher Jake Friar from Westport, Massachusetts.
Friar is a 6' 1'' 175 pound catcher from Westport, Massachusetts. He has played four years of varsity baseball under Head Coach Glenn Lincoln at Westport High School. The two-year captain has a career batting average of .308 and ERA of .294. A highly heralded player in high school, Friar was a two-time Fall River Herald News All-star, two-time New Bedford Standard Times All-star, and a two-time Mayflower League All-star. Not just a leader on the diamond, Friar also captained the golf and basketball teams at Westport High School. His brother, Nicholas, currently plays baseball at Northwestern University.
Friar had this to say about his decision to become a Pioneer:
"I chose Sacred Heart University because it displays the perfect combination of academic strength and athletic success that I was looking for in a college. The people of SHU support their school passionately and it reflects throughout the entire campus. The coaching staff and players exhibit the attitude and character traits that I see as a great model for myself, and I look forward to spending four great years as a Pioneer."
