Fairfield, CT – Senior right hander Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) has been named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week. Scribner dominated the hottest team in college baseball, the Bryant Bulldogs on Friday afternoon, snapping their 19 game win streak and handing them their first conference loss of the season.
The SHU ace was outstanding all afternoon long, striking out 11 Bulldogs, and giving up just three hits, and one unearned run. The right-hander's lone unearned run came with two outs in the seventh inning. The senior captain rebounded quickly from the seventh, striking out the side in the eighth. Scribner shut down an offense that was batting .313 on the season and averaging over six runs a game. Scribner is now 3-2 on the season and leads the Northeast Conference with 61 strikeouts in 51.2 innings.
"Troy has been a fierce competitor for SHU baseball since the day he walked on campus. We know we are going to get a tremendous effort every time Troy takes the mound," Head Coach Nick Giaqunto commented about the senior ace.
Sacred Heart took three out of four against the first place Bryant Bulldogs, winning their fourth consecutive NEC series. The Pioneers face off against cross-town rival Fairfield tomorrow afternoon before heading to Monmouth this weekend.
