Fairfield, CT - Freshman third baseman Jesus Medina (New York, NY) has been named Northeast Conference Rookie of the week after an impressive weekend in two Pioneer wins.
Medina was back in his native New York City over the weekend for the Frankie Frisch Invitational on the campus of Fordham University in the Bronx. The first-year Pioneer collected five hits and drove in the first four runs of his collegiate career in two starts. Medina went 5-for-7 (.714) at the plate with a triple, a stolen base, two sacrifices, four RBI and four runs scored in wins over St. Peter's on Friday and host Fordham on Sunday. He recorded the first multi-hit game of his career by going 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI against St. Peter's. Medina would follow that impressive performance with a three-hit day on Sunday in a 9-1 rout of host Fordham. The rookie stroked a bases-clearing triple to bring home three Pioneers in the fourth inning, giving the Pioneers a 5-0 lead.
Sacred Heart opens up conference play this weekend when they host a four game series against the Wagner Seahawks.
