Sacred Heart Baseball Wins 7-4 at Wagner to Split Series with Seahawks

(Staten Island, NY) – The Sacred Heart Baseball team earned a four-game series split at Wagner with  7-4 win Sunday afternoon.

Scoreless through four innings, the Pioneers exploded for four runs in the fifth to take the lead.  Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY) broke the ice with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly by Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY), an RBI single by Billy McDonough (Ballston Spa, NY), and a bases loaded walk by John Murphy (Seymour, CT).

In the sixth, SHU opened up a 7-0 lead.  After a run-scoring wild pitch, McDonough and Murphy both singled in runs before Wagner mounted a comeback bid in their half of the inning.  Jason Keel walked in the first Seahawk run, followed by a sacrifice fly by Eddie Brown.  Ian Miller singled home two more in in the seventh to cut SHU's lead to three runs.

Nick Leiningen (Millwood, NY) recorded his first save of the season, closing the game with two scoreless innings on one hit.  Kody Kerski earned the win, going seven innings and yielding four earned runs with six hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) knocked three hits, while Derick Horn (Valatie, NY) and McDonough both collected two hits.

The Pioneers host Monmouth in a four-game series in the final regular season series of the year, beginning Thursday at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard at 3:00 pm.
