SHU Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader at LIU-Brooklyn

(Brooklyn, NY) – The Sacred heart Baseball team swept a doubleheader, beating
LIU-Brooklyn 4-1 and 3-2 to start a four-game weekend conference series.

In game one, Nick Leiningen (Millwood, NY) pitched his fifth complete game of the season, shutting down the Blackbirds on three hits and one earned run with six strikeouts through nine innings.  Matt Charmello (Rossmoor, CA) hit two homeruns, driving in all four runs of the game. He gave SHU a second inning lead with a solo homerun, then put the game away with a three-run blast in the fourth.

Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) followed with a seven-inning complete game, scattering seven hits and striking out seven without issuing a walk.  The Pioneers took the lead first again on a an RBI single by Dan Perez (Seymour ,CT) in the first.  The Blackbirds tied it the next half-inning on an RBI groundout. 

SHU took the lead for good in the second on an RBI double by Keaton Flint Charlton, NY) and an RBI single by Hunter Phillips (Monroe, CT).

SHU and LIU-Brooklyn conclude the series with a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
