Baseball Swept in Doubleheader, 3-2 and 10-4

(Smithfield, RI) – The Sacred Heart Baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at Bryant Saturday afternoon, falling 3-2 and 10-4.

In game one, Troy Scribner (Washington Depot, CT) scattered five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in giving up three runs. 

The Pioneers jumped to a 2-0 lead in the third on an RBI single by Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY) and an RBI double by Hunter Phillips (Monroe, CT).  However, Mike Delponte tied the game with a homerun to right in the fourth.  In the sixth, Jamie Skagerland gave the Bulldogs the lead for good with a tie-breaking solo homerun to right.

In game two, the Pioneers once again jumped to an early lead on an RBI single to right by Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY).  However, Bryant stormed back with two in the first and three in the second, highlighted by a two-run homerun by Mullen.

Bryant ran away with the game with a five-run fifth, Matt Zanotta and Connor Carignan had RBI singles, and John Mullen knocked an RBI double.  Billy McDonough (Ballston Spa, NY) and Matt Charmello (Rossmoor, CA) both delivered RBI singles in a three-run sixth for SHU, but the Pioneers would get no closer.

The Pioneers look to salvage the finale of the four-game series beginning at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
