SHU Baseball Beats Yale 6-3
(Bridgeport, CT) – The Sacred Heart Baseball team scored four times in the first inning and never looked back in a 6-3 win over the Yale Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The Pioneers scored those four first-inning runs on just one hit, an RBI double by John Murphy (Seymour, CT). Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY), Zach Gandee (Waldorf, MD), and Billy McDonough (Ballston Spa, NY) all walked with the bases-loaded. SHU scored two more in the third on a sacrifice fly by Matt Charmello (Rossmoor, CA) and an RBI single by Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY).
The Bulldogs got on the board on a solo homerun to right by Josh Scharff leading off the fourth, then plated two more in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Joe Lubanski and an RBI single by Chris Piwinski, but got no closer.
Jeff Stoddard (Branford, CT) shut down the Bulldogs on just one hit and no runs in the final 3.1 innings to earn the save. Boisture earned the victory with three scoreless innings on the mound.
The Pioneers begin a three-game series at Kansas State University beginning Thursday night at 6:30 pm.
