Baseball Swept in Doubleheader with New Mexico State

Las Cruces, NM-The Sacred Heart Baseball team played their second and third games of a four-game series against the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday, falling 21-3 in the first game and 23-11 in the second game.

In game one, after taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, the Aggies unloaded for 19 runs in the bottom of the second inning.  The rest of the game was not that bad for the Pioneers only allowing two runs over the next four innings.  The game was stopped before the bottom of the seventh, because of the 10-run rule.

The Pioneers struck quickly and often in a six-run first inning, highlighted by a Rob Griffith (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) two-run double.  Connor McEvoy (Watertown, CT) hit his first career homerun, going 3-4 with three RBI and two runs in the game.

However, New Mexico State would score two runs in the bottom half of the second and 10 runs in the third.  Cody Edwards hit for the cycle for the Aggies, driving in 11 runs in an incredible individual performance .

The Baseball team returns to action Sunday, finishing up their four-game set against the Aggies.  First pitch is set for 4:05 ET.
