(Hammond, LA) – The Sacred Heart Pioneer Baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader with Southeastern Louisiana Sunday afternoon, 10-0 and 11-3.
In the first game, JJ Edwards and Rob Griffith accounted for all four of SHU's hits, as both went 2-3. SLU ran away with a 2-0 fourth inning lead by exploding for eight more after the first two batters of the inning were retired. SLU strung together seven straight hits, including RBI triples by Cass Hargis and Jacob Fisher and an RBI double by Josh Cryer. Tyler Watkins pitched seven shutout innings for the win.
In game two, the Pioneers jumped to a 2-0 first inning lead on RBI singles by Griffith and Hunter Phillips. However, SLU took the lead for good with four runs in the third on RBI hits by Justin Boudreaux, Jeff Harkensee, and Josh Cryer. They added another in the fourth, and five more in the fifth. Boudreaux (2-5, 2 runs) and Harkensee (2-4, 1 run) each had three RBI. Hargis (2-3, 2 runs) and Jonathon Pace (1-3) also knocked in two.
Steve Tedesco and Edwards both went 2-4, while Nick Leiningan pitched two solid innings with four strikeouts and a run allowed.
Sacred Heart goes for the series split against SLU Monday night at 7:00 p.m. EST.
