SHU Equestrian Competes in First NCEA Meet

Southbury, CT - The Sacred Heart equestrian team hosted the University of Tennesse – Martin Skyhawks over the weekend to kick-off NCEA action. The Pioneers were defeated by the Skyhawks, by a score of 11-5. Although the Pioneers took the loss in total points; their raw score was higher than UTM giving the Pioneers something to build on going forward.

For the Pioneers three freshman took home points in their first ever NCEA meet. Ally D'Amico (Cheshire, CT) riding "Dun" earned the only Equitation Flat point. Freshman Samantha Genise (Freehold, NJ) riding "Teddy" won her point in Equitation Over Fences. Freshman Katie Gray (Colchester, VT) riding "Dunkin" also earned a point in the Equitation Over Fences. Genise also won the Pioneers' only Horsemanship Point.

Senior Molly-Kate Carven (Amesbury, MA) won the last point for the Pioneers in Reining.

Overall it was a strong performance by an inexperienced Pioneer team. They are in action next on November 10th at the IHSA English Wesleyan University.
