Pair from Equestrian Qualify for Regional Championship at IHSA Event

GALES FERRY, CT (October 20, 2012) – The Sacred Heart equestrian team participated in the IHSA Hunt Seat competition hosted by Fairfield University at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club in Gales Ferry, CT.  The Pioneers had seven athletes compete and finished the event with 27 total points.

The University of Connecticut was the high point team at 33 points with reserve high point honors going to Trinity and Post with 29 points each.

A pair of Pioneers turned in regional championship qualifying performances in senior Meagan Korolyshun and sophomore Taylor DiBella.  Korolyshun qualified in Novice Fences and finished in fourth place.  DiBella hit the mark in the Novice Flat and took home the blue ribbon in the event.

Sophomore Courtney Sevigny finished first riding in the Intermediate Fences event.  Freshman Samantha Genise was a third place finisher in Open Fences and fourth place in Intermediate Flat.

Senior Devan Beaulieu took fifth in Open Fences.  Junior Jocelyn Alfieri was fourth in Open Flat and sophomore Sara Scopa took fourth in Advance W/T/C.

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, October 27th at the IHSA English event hosted by Post University at Lee's Riding Stabel, Inc. in Litchfield, CT.
