FAIFIELD, CT - The Sacred Heart University Equestrian Team played host to New Mexico State University on Thursday, October 20th and Southern Methodist University on Sunday, October 23rd, both at the River's Edge Farm in Bethany CT.
Competing for SHU in Hunter Seat Equitation Flat against NMSU, were senior Abbie Britton, junior Devan Beaulieu, sophomore Alissa Normandeau and freshman Allison Brosky. Competing for SHU in Hunter Seat Equitation Over Fences were Britton, sophomore Alissa Normandeau and freshmen Allison Brosky and Taylor DiBella.
This was the first NCAA competition for both Brosky and DiBella. Brosky defeated her opponent in the flat event, scoring her first NCAA point and the only point earned for SHU. Britton was named MVP by Judge Susan Lohman for her performance in Hunter Seat Equitation Flat.
Competing for SHU in Western Horsemanship and Reining were seniors Alyssa Woronik and Adrianna Dattoli, junior Molly-Kate Carven, and sophomore Maggie Vogel. As a team, the Pioneers were defeated by the Aggies 1-15.
Against SMU, competing for SHU in both Hunter Seat Equitation Flat and Hunter Seat Equitation Over Fences were Britton, Normandeau, Brosky, and DiBella. Britton was named MVP by Judge Richard Luckhardt for her performance in Hunter Seat Equitation Flat. There was no Horsemanship or Reining competition at this event. The Pioneers were defeated by the Mustangs 0-8.
