FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team had three players selected to the Battle of Connecticut All-Tournament after the Pioneers went 3-0 in the tournament. Liisel Nelis, Julia Murawinski and Sarah Ciszek were all recognized for their performances in the three game stretch.
In a 3-0 week for the Pioneers, Nelis recorded 47 kills, as she averaged 3.62 kills per set. Nelis also added 36 digs and averaged 2.77 digs per set. In a 3-1 win over Hartford, Nelis recorded 14 kills and and 13 digs for her first double-double of the season. Nelis followed that performance with her second double-double of the season in a 3-2 win over Hartford, where she registered a season-high 19 kills, 18 assists and four service aces. Nelis concluded her week with 14 kills and five digs in a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac.
Murawinski totaled 36 kills, eight digs, eight blocks and four service aces for the Pioneers in the tournament. Murawinski averaged 2.77 kills per set for the week. Murawinski totaled 12 kills and five digs in a 3-1 win over Hartford. She followed with 16 kills in a 3-2 win over Hartford and eight kills and two service aces in a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac
Ciszek totaled 22 kills with a .327 hit percentage, 24 digs, averaging 1.85 digs per set and finished with 131 assists. In the win over Fairfield, Ciszek finished with seven kills and 38 assists. She followed that performance with seven kills and a career-high 55 assists in a win over Hartford. Ciszek concluded the week with eight kills, 38 assists and three digs in the win over Quinnipiac.
Sacred Heart currently boasts a 4-1 record and has won three-consecutive matches. The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 7, when SHU travels to take on Seton Hall in the at the Thunderdome Classic in Santa Barbara, California. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
