    The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team fell to Central Connecticut State University 3-0 Sunday afternoon in the William H. Pitt Center on Senior Day. Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.) and Makayla Dole (Cypress, Calif.) led the match with 14 and 11 kills respectively as the Pioneers finish the 2014 season 9-19 over and 4-10 in Northeast Conference play.
  • Pioneers Lose Five-Set Battle to Bryant

    Three Pioneers reached double-digit kills Thursday night as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team lost a heart breaker in five sets to Bryant University. Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led the way with 15 kills with Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.) and Jene Lee (San Dimas, Calif.) right behind her tallying 13 and 11 respectively. The loss drops SHU to 9-18 on the season and 4-9 in Northeast Conference play.

  • Pioneers Break NCAA Single-Set Scoring Record in Five-Set Loss to CCSU

    The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team set a new NCAA Division I single-set scoring record today when they took the fourth set from the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils 46-44. Freshman Lila Palmer (Cypress, Texas) had one of the strongest showings of her young career in the five-set loss. The rookie tallied a career-best 18 kills while hitting .282.

The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-4 against Northeast Conference opponents this season.

The sophomore right side hitter totaled a match-leading 24 kills while hitting .388. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 7-11 this season and 2-3 against Northeast Conference opponents.

    The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team was swept by Robert Morris Sunday afternoon in Sewall Center (25-19, 25-20, 25-22). Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Katie Direnzo (Shelton, Conn.) led the team with eight kills each. Direnzo hit .500 only making two errors throughout the match. Freshman Makayla Dole (Cypress, Calif.) tallied a career-high 21 digs as SHU’s record moves to 5-9 on the season.

    Freshman Makayla Dole (Cypress, Calif.) led the Pioneers with 21 kills as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team’s comeback fell short against the Saint Francis U Red Flash in the 2014 conference opener Saturday evening in the DeGol Arena. Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.) posted 16 kills and 13 digs for her four double-double of the season in the five-set loss that dropped SHU to 5-8 on the season.

    The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team suffered a pair of losses to Pittsburgh and South Florida on day two of the Pittsburgh Panther Classic Saturday. Sophomore libero Ana Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 4.08 digs per set throughout three matches.

    Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.) led the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team to Friday night’s sweep of the University of Delaware(25-22, 25-20, 27-25) with 12 kills. Banks was just one of three Pioneers to reach double-digit kills. Sophomore Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and rookie Makayla Dole (Cypress, Calif.) tallied 11 kills each as SHU improves to an even 5-5 on the first night of the Pittsburgh Panther Classic.

    The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team came back after dropping the first set to capture a win over Siena 3-1 (16-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-21) Friday night in the Hofstra Invitational. Rookie Makayla Dole (Cypress, Calif.) led the match with 14 kills. Teammate Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.) wasn’t far behind with 13. The win improves the Pioneers’ record to 2-5 going into the second day of the tournament.
  • Pioneers Drop Heartbreaker to Hartford

    The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team lost a heartbreaker to Hartford in the finale of the 2014 SHU Hampton Inn Shelton Invitational. After dropping the first two sets 25-17 and 25-23), the Pioneers bounced back taking the third and fourth sets before falling 16-14 in the fifth. Junior Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.) had her best match of the tournament posting a double-double with 19 kills and 11 digs.
  • Volleyball Picks Up First Win in Opening Day of SHU Hampton Inn Shelton Invitational

    Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) racked up an impressive 35 kills hitting .354 over two matches Saturday as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team claimed their first win of the season 3-2 (25-16, 19-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-12) over Iona in the home opener, before falling to the University of Rhode Island 3-0 (18-25, 13-25, 19-25) later in the day.
  • Gonzalez Named to All-Tournament Team; Pioneers Drop Two

    Ana Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) was named to the Titan Classic All-Tournament Team after tallying 35 digs and six service aces throughout the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team’s three matches. The Pioneers finish the Titan Classic 0-3 after getting swept by Cal State Fullerton (25-17, 25-21, 25-18) and losing a heartbreaker to Bucknell (25-22, 25-22, 16-25, 21-25, 12-15) on day two of the tournament.

The reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year hit .308 in the first game of the Titan Classic at UC Fullerton Friday night.

  • Women's Volleyball Announces 2014 Schedule

    FAIRFIELD, CONN. (June 16, 2014)—Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Rob Machan announced the team’s 2014 schedule Monday. The Pioneers, who finished third in the Northeast Conference last year with a 8-5 conference record, will begin the hunt for their third NEC crown on August 29 when they face the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Titan Classic hosted by UC Fullerton.
