For the first time in her career Alissa Young (La Verne, CA) captured a Molten/NEC weekly award, claiming Rookie of the Week honors after the Pioneers posted a 3-0 record last week. Young ended the week with her strongest performance, blasting seven kills en route to a .667 hitting percentage against Quinnipiac.
In Sacred Heart's toughest match of the three victories, Young was the Pioneers most efficient attacker, swinging at a .353 clip. She also registered a career high eight digs in West Point, NY versus the Black Knights. Young's serve was crucial in the early going of the triumph as SHU rattled off five straight points on her serve to build a 7-1 advantage in the first set. The 5-10 freshman rounded out her numbers on the week with six kills and a .308 hitting percentage against St. Francis (NY).
Young and the Pioneers return to action this weekend for home matches against Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA).
