Volleyball Routs St. Francis (NY), 3-0

Brooklyn Heights, NY – The SHU women's volleyball unleashed a relentless attack and cruised to a 3-0 triumph at St. Francis (NY) Saturday afternoon.  Johanna Ovsenek (London, Ontario) ripped nine kills on ten swings for a .900 hitting percentage.  Kimmee Roleder (Pasadena, CA) recorded a match high 13 kills while swinging at a .394 clip.   Jessica Colberg (Long Beach, CA), the reigning NEC defender of the week, paced the Pioneer defense with nine digs.

Sacred Heart (15-5, 5-0 NEC) exploded out of the gates to take a 12-3 advantage in the opening set.  The Terriers managed just two kills and hit -.259 in the first game.  Alissa Young (La Verne, CA) and Ovsenek combined for one of SHU's six blocks of the match to secure the 25-9 first set victory for the Pioneers. 

St. Francis (NY) (1-21, 0-6) climbed out of an early hole in the second set, getting to within four, 16-12, following a Feliz Ramirez service ace.  The Terriers' highest attack percentage came in the second set at .105 while notching seven kills.  The Pioneers ended the set with back-to-back points as Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) provided a service ace followed by a Young kill. Mercado and Young rounded out the afternoon with six kills each.

The third set was more of the same as the Pioneers rattled off ten straight points to open the game.  Roleder slammed home three kills within a four point span down the stretch as Sacred Heart took the set, 25-13, and the match, 3-0.  The Pioneers finished the match with a season high .356 hitting percentage, totaling 41 kills against just ten errors.

The SHU volleyball team opens up a four game home stand tomorrow afternoon against intrastate rival Quinnipiac.  First serve inside the William H. Pitt Center is slated for 1:00 pm.
