Sacred Heart senior Brittany Dexter (Ballston Lake, NY) and sophomore Bertony Jean-Louis (Norwalk, CT) earned All-East honors by virtue of their top-eight finishes at the 2010 ECAC and IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend.

Jean-Louis broke his own school record of 7.49 in the 55 meter hurdles, which he set at the New England Championship last weekend. The sophomore sprinters set his new mark of 7.44 seconds in the event semi-final. He then smashed the record again in the final, crossing the line in 7.34 seconds, good for a second place finish. His time also surpassed the NCAA Provisional qualifying standard of 7.38 and currently ranks him 33rd in the nation in the event.

His 7.34 is the fastest time by a New England athlete this season. Jean-Louis is the fourth athlete in Sacred Heart program history to meet an NCAA Division I indoor qualifying standard, joining former Pioners Arman Dixon (60 dash and 200 in 2007; 60 dash, 200 and long jump in 2008) and Marsha Locke (shot put in 2008) and teammate Dexter (high jump in 2009).

In the high jump, Dexter finished fourth overall clearing the bar at 5'6.50" (1.69m) for All-East honors.

Sophomore Athalia Smith (New Britain, CT) competed in both the shot put and weight throw events. Smith finished 12th in the weight throw with a toss of 53'00" (16.15m) and 13th in the shot put with a throw of 43'7.25" (13.29m).
